FAQ: Communcations

Do any of your printers have a coax connection?

No, if you are using a coax network you may be able to use an Ethernet hub that converts the coax to the RJ-45 cabling method and connect our Ethernet printers in that manner

I have downloaded the RS232 Emulation Driver, but my printer still will not communicate

This driver is for USB only. You must also have the boot version that controls the USB to simulate a com port. If you have purchased a Native/Printer Class USB printer, then you will have to either use Printer Class (print using Windows) or RS232. To confirm that you have the correct printer, either turn the printer off and turn it back on while holding down the feed button or open the receipt cover and close it while holding the feed button. The printer will print out its configuration. Approximately 1/2 ways down the form will be a section named Comm. Interface. Look near the bottom of that section to see if there is a line saying USB Driver Type. If there is then you have a printer that does not support the RS232 emulation.

How do I set my Printer to Printer Class?

Go to Download Utilities and select your printer.  Download the Printer Configuration Utility and the A7XX Native driver and the appropriate Mini Driver(s) for your Operating system. Unzip the following files and save them to your computer (Not the Desktop). Download and unzip the A7XX native driver and Mini Driver(s). Run the setup.exe for the Configruation Utility. Once you have the utility installed, open it up (should be HMutility). There should be a screen that appears that says Printer Utility. On the far left you will see different printers, Click on your printer type. Click the Setup button (bottom right) (another box should appear) Communication Setup. Click the Remove button and double Click on the USB Native (should now show USB, NATIVE, OFF on the right column). Click the ON button (should now show USB, NATIVE, ON) if it does not turn on, be sure you have power to the printer and the USB cable is plugged in (Device manager should show TPG A7XX under the Universal Serial Bus location). Select OK and you will return to the Printer Utility screen. In the middle column of command Selection you need to select Set USB to Printer Class and Click the Send button (far right side). Click on the Reset Printer button. When the printer resets you should now have the Found New Hardware Wizard. Close the Printer Configuration Utility. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Directions for manually changing the printer class On the back of the printer, move switch 1 to the down position(A794/A795/A776/B780) On the back of the printer, move switch 1 to the up position (A758/A760) Power cycle the printer while holding down the receipt feed button (A795 Printer Config Menu should appear) 3 short clicks (select communication) 1 long click to validate (Communication interface menu) Continue with short clicks to bypass several selections until you get to SET USB DRIVER SELECTION 1 long click (YES) 1 short click to select printer class Printer Class USB Driver Selected should show 1 long click to save the new parameter At the Main Menu 1 short click (EXIT) 1 long click to validate Return switch 1 on the back of the printer to the up or down position (depending on your model) new hardware wizard should show up, then you will follow the steps to install the A7xx Mini Driver NT/2K/XP. I can’t communicate with my printer through the serial com port , what could the problem be?

Using the Jadmin <Cognitive Printer Administrator>, on the "Connection Settings" TAB under "Connection Parameters > Serial Connection" section, the printer baud rate and the host <PC> baud rate must be identical. Depending on the actual printer model, the printer defaults are usually 9600 baud, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit, Parity NONE.

Make sure these printer settings match the host <PC>.
